IGCSEs

LearnOnline Self-Study: Offering a range of subjects, giving the learner a choice to study those essential ‘Maths & English’ courses or choose a subject that is of a special interest such as History, Computer Science or Religious Studies.

When enrolled learner receive access to our Virtual Learning Education platform (VLE), which contains the course content developed by our subject specialist tutors.

The content is broken into topics, which include; learning objectives, material to work through, and tutor marked assignments (TMAs). Learners receive physical textbooks endorsed by the awarding body, and they will work with the textbook alongside the VLE to learn the subject and complete the course.

The tutors mark the assignments submitted and provide constructive feedback. They are also available to contact via the platform should the learner get stuck on a certain topic or have questions about the course content or the feedback.

Learners receive 2 years’ access from the date of enrolment and can enrol at any time throughout the year.

LearnOnline Live: Offering a range of the essential IGCSE subjects. LearnOnline Live works in a similar way to a standard school or college – only the classroom is online rather than in a physical building.

The lessons are timetabled each week and learners are expected to attend the lesson, which involves interaction with the subject specialist tutor and the rest of the class. Learners can be as interactive or inactive during the lesson as they like, either talking or writing public or private messages to the tutor.

The lesson is followed up with homework, which is marked by the course tutor. The lessons are recorded so if the learner misses a lesson or wishes to use for revision purposes they can.

Courses are available during term-time only, giving the learners those essential study breaks. IGCSE courses are studied over a two-year period, starting in September finishing just before exams in summer of the learner’s final year.

Student Support and Mentors: All learners under 18 will be allocated a mentor, which is often a parent, family member, private tutor or school teacher. Mentors have a separate login to the VLE platform and can view the learner’s progress on the course, viewing the tutor feedback on each assignment submitted, and has the ability to contact the tutor directly should they wish to.

The LearnOnline Team work with learners and mentors to support each individual. Not everyone wants the hands-on approach with regular reports or prompts to study, but this is a service we can provide if requested.

Both learners and mentors also receive a learner support module, which includes help with creating a study plan, advice on studying independently, how to deal with stress, careers advice, revision guidance and exam preparation. This is available for the duration of study with LearnOnline.
