Course Structure

IGCSE History LearnOnline Self-study course covers the following topics:

Depth Studies
Students will study two depth studies of the following topics:

  • Germany: development of dictatorship, 1918-45
  • Dictatorship and conflict in the USSR, 1924-53

Students will:

  • gain knowledge and understanding of the key features and characteristics of historical periods
  • develop skills to analyse and evaluate historical interpretations in the context of historical events studied
  • develop skills to explain, analyse and make judgements about historical events and periods studied, using second-order historical concepts.

Historical Investigation
Students will study historical investigation of the following topic:

  • The origins and course of the First World War, 1905-18

Breadth Studies
Students will study one breadth study of the following topic:

  • Changes in medicine, c1848-c1948

Students will:

  • gain knowledge and understanding of the key features and characteristics of historical periods
  • develop skills to explain, analyse and make judgements about historical events and periods studied, using second-order historical concepts
  • learn how to use a range of source material to comprehend, interpret and cross-refer sources
  • develop skills to analyse and evaluate

Tutor Support Assignments

The most important part of your online IGCSE History LearnOnline course (apart from you) is your dedicated tutor. Every LearnOnline tutor has extensive academic experience and have taught IGCSE History in the classroom as well as online. During your enrolment onto the course, you will be assigned your tutor who will support you for up to 24 months during your studies. Paper 1: Depth Studies- 4HI1/01

Students are assessed through an examination based on their selected depth studies.

Students answer two questions, one on each of the depth studies they have studied, which will be:

  • 3. Germany: development of dictatorship, 1918-45.
  • 5. Dictatorship and conflict in the USSR, 1924-53.

60 marks
1 hours 30 minutes – written paper

Paper 2: Investigation and Breadth Studies- 4HI1/02

Students are assessed through an examination based on their historical investigation and breadth study in change.

Students answer two questions, one question on their historical investigation and one question on their breadth study in change;

  • A1. The origins and course of the First World War, 1905-18
  • B2. Changes in medicine, c1848-c1948.

60 marks
1 hour 30 minutes – written paper
50% of of History IGCSE
Available: May/June

It is your responsibility to find an exam centre and we recommend you book your exams 6 months prior to the date of exams.
